National Charity : Strategic Leadership Opportunity
An established and nationally respected membership charity is seeking an experienced and values-driven Chair of Trustees to lead its Board during an important period of continued development and sector influence.
The organisation supports a nationwide network of member organisations delivering essential community-based services that improve accessibility, inclusion and quality of life for people across the UK. With strong organisational momentum and a clear five-year strategic direction in place, this is an opportunity to help guide a successful charity through its next phase of growth and impact. Working closely with the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees, the Chair will provide strategic leadership, ensure strong governance, and act as an ambassador for the organisation and its mission.
This role would suit a senior leader who is motivated by purpose and keen to contribute their experience to an organisation making a tangible difference to communities across the UK.
The Role
The Chair will:
- Provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees
- Ensure effective governance and oversight of the organisation
- Work in partnership with the Chief Executive to support delivery of strategy
- Chair Board meetings and guide effective decision-making
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation and its work externally
- Support the continued development of a high-performing Board and leadership team
About You
We are seeking an experienced senior leader with:
- Board-level or equivalent leadership experience
- Experience chairing boards, committees, working groups or senior meetings
- Strong governance expertise, ideally including charity trustee experience
- Strategic insight and the ability to guide organisations through change and growth
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to provide constructive challenge while supporting executive leadership
Experience within the voluntary, membership or public sector would be beneficial but is not essential.
Knowledge or experience of working in the transport sector will also be useful.
Commitment
- Approximately 20 days per year
- Four Board meetings annually (online - some travel / in person meetings required from time to time
- One annual strategy / development day and occasional sector events
This role is voluntary (non-remunerated), although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
